On 27 August 2025 Turnitin expanded its AI writing detection with AI bypasser detection: a capability to flag text that was AI-generated and then altered by a humanizer or "bypasser" tool to look human. Here is what changed and what didn't.

Why Turnitin did it
Turnitin said humanizer tools had grown quickly over two years and shifted the problem from using AI to hiding it. Its chief product officer described some humanizer companies as "cheating providers". The aim was to close the gap that let humanized text score 0%.
What it means for your work
- Humanizer apps are riskier in English than before August 2025.
- Old reports don't change. A file must be resubmitted to be scored by the updated model.
- False positives remain possible. Turnitin still says the score shouldn't be the only basis for a decision.
