What Is Turnitin Similarity? The Similarity Report in Plain Terms
Independent guide. Not affiliated with Turnitin, LLC. Read the Turnitin disclaimer.
Turnitin similarity is the percentage of your document that matches text in Turnitin's databases. The similarity report shows which sources matched and where.
What it includes
- An overall similarity percentage.
- Match groups (cited, quoted, neither).
- Top sources: internet, publications, submitted works.
- Your text with each match highlighted.
Similarity isn't plagiarism
A properly quoted and cited sentence still matches. What matters is whether matched text is credited. See what percentage is acceptable.
