How to Check Your Paper on Turnitin Before Submitting
Independent guide. Not affiliated with Turnitin, LLC. Read the Turnitin disclaimer.
You can check your paper on Turnitin before the real submission, as long as the check doesn't store your paper. Otherwise your final version will match the draft.
Option 1: A draft assignment
Some instructors create a practice assignment. Ask whether it's set to "no repository". If it stores papers, your final submission will match your draft.
Option 2: A private Turnitin check
- Create an account.
- Upload your DOCX or PDF ($3.50).
- Download the Turnitin similarity and AI reports, usually within 30 minutes.
Your paper isn't saved to any repository.
Want the full PDFs? Open a sample Turnitin similarity report and a sample Turnitin AI report. Yours arrive in the same format, usually within 30 minutes.
Why free checkers aren't the same
They don't have Turnitin's repository of submitted papers or its AI model, so their numbers won't match. See free Turnitin checker options.
What to fix before submitting
- Uncited matches in the Not Cited or Quoted group.
- Long quotes: shorten and explain in your words.
- AI-highlighted sentences: rewrite them or use our human humanizer ($5.99 per 200 words).
